Amen Tim. Isn't it all about efficiency? Readers aren't looking for duplicate content - they're looking for the best content/resource. Local newspapers are perfectly positioned to be that resource - the aggregation of interests and events in your community - but are often too possessive or slow to move to get there. Glam Media is an interesting example. If I remember correctly, they own the advertising sales on their networked sites (with a rev share I think) - this could work so well for newspaper print sales teams (which are massive) who need to transition to another area for self-preservation! If the local paper could leverage influential local groups and content - with one core, professional sales team - how successful could they be?!?

Forgive me, Tim ...

But didn't the WaPost try this already? (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-adv/blogroll/d... )

Because we all know one failure means it'll never work anywhere, right?

Because no VC-funded company (href=http://google.com) has ever succeeded where someone else (href=http://excite.com; href=http://lycos.com ; href=http://altavista.com ; or, hell, href=http://yahoo.com ) has failed.
